Listen now →About Us
Extra Sauce is an eight-piece instrumental jazz-funk-rock ensemble from central Italy — a tight rhythm section and a three-horn front line built on groove, interplay, and a lot of fun.
Opening Act for Roberto Vecchioni & Colapesce Dimartino
We had the honor of opening for the legendary singer-songwriter Roberto Vecchioni and the renowned Italian duo Colapesce Dimartino, sharing our unique jazz-funk-rock fusion with their audiences.
Thomann × Shure Selection
Selected as one of the top 10 bands in the Thomann × Shure open call for the Montreux Jazz Festival.
European Festival Circuit
We've performed at Umbria Che Spacca, Suoni Controvento, Fara Music Festival and numerous other European festivals, bringing our distinctive sound to international audiences across the continent.
Davide Zucchini
Trumpet
The highest note of the group, a teacher at the Pistoia Blues Clinic who has collaborated with Nico Gori and Massimo Moriconi. Rumor has it he knows every censored song in history by heart.
Emanuele Caporali
Tenor Saxophone
The poetic voice of the band: there's no marching band in central Italy he hasn't conducted. He has played with Fabrizio Bosso, Stefano Di Battista, Roberto Gatto and many others. Legend has it his solo on 'Bright' originally lasted 37 minutes.
Emanuele Burnelli
Baritone Saxophone
Mr. Funk himself. He plays 9 days out of 7 and knows by heart every ballroom number ever written. Every day he tries to convince the group to play the Polkissima. So far, with little success.
Federico Papaianni
Guitar
Founder and main composer of the group, he has a different disgusted face for every note he plays (so five of them, one per note of the E minor pentatonic). He plays and writes for numerous local artists including Frammenti and Lagoona.
Santiago Fernandez
Keyboards
Classical and jazz pianist, harmony made flesh. He has played with Joseph Bowie, Silvia Bolognesi, Fabrizio Bosso and many others. If you hear loud sighs or someone humming during live performances or on albums — that's him.
Ruggero Bonucci
Bass
An Umbrian bassist by way of London, he knows every detail of melody, harmony, rhythm and arrangement, but decided to play bass so as not to make the others feel inadequate. He's been trying to organize a football match for 15 years but hasn't succeeded yet.
Simone Chiavini
Percussion
If you see flying percussion instruments, or someone dancing, shouting and putting on a show, it's him: our percussionist. At every live show he tries to stage dive, but always gets stopped by the rest of the group.
Alessio Lucaroni
Drums
There's no Umbrian group he hasn't played with. Every 4/4 piece with him becomes a gargantuan feat of rhythmic subdivision and metric modulation. He has played with Ricky Portera, Frammenti, Sacromud and many others. We still haven't figured out if his name is Alessio or Luca.
